Relationships with leading bodies

To strengthen its commitment to the environment, Alstom has teamed up with a number of leading bodies working to promote corporate involvement in overall sustainable development such as:

Commitment to the UN Global Compact’s Caring for Climate initiative: in  2008, Alstom joined the United Nations’ Global Compact organisation, designed to encourage companies to commit to a set of key values spanning human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and ethics in business practices. Alstom is actively involved in this network and fully endorses Caring for Climate – the initiative led by the UN Global Compact and the secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) aimed at advancing the role of business in addressing climate change (Commitment letter available for download below) ;

Alstom has signed the Sustainable Development Charter drawn up by the International Association of Public Transport (UITP);

In 2014, Alstom confirmed its support to the International Union of Railways (UIC) Low Carbon Rail Transport Challenge, “a commitment to  deliver  railway  solutions  which  are  more  energy  efficient  and attractive  such  as  high  performance  electrical,  diesel  and  hybrid trains, smart railway systems and modernisation services”.

Alstom is a member of the Sustainable Low-Carbon Transport Partnership (SLoCaT). The Partnership’s primary goal is to mobilize global support to promote sustainable, low carbon transport and thereby reduce the growth of GHG emissions generated by land transport in developing countries and maximize the contribution of transport to poverty eradication and sustainable development.

Alstom is also contributing to the platform for electromobility, a voluntary grouping of 25 European companies, NGOs and sectoral associations, which encourages a wider use of electric vehicles in all modes to control emissions from the transport sector.

Finally, Alstom joined the Hydrogen Council, an industrial grouping of like-minded companies, whose main objective is to promote hydrogen and fuel cells as clean and efficient technologies.

Our monetary contributions to international and French trade-associations amount to 1,044, 000 euros for fiscal year 2016/17. Contributions to political parties and campaigns are forbidden by the Group E&C instructions.
