The Role
Reporting to the Country Counsel you will provide active support to the business functions in all contractual and legal aspects of the business. The Legal Counsel will support management in establishing and implementing risk management strategies as well as taking part actively in the negotiation of contracts and other commercial agreements.
Responsibilities include:
· Fostering and monitoring compliance with the company’s legal agreements, legal procedures and management instructions.
· Evaluating contractual/legal tender enquiries, preparing and/or approving tender terms and conditions, preparing contract documentation.
· Participating in client negotiations for projects, negotiating terms and conditions and/or approving contract terms.
· Preparing and negotiating consortium agreements, major subcontracts and other internal/external collaboration agreements
· Supporting the contract manager and project management in all legal and contractual matters including analysis of terms and conditions and the prosecution, defence and administration of contractual claims.
· Preparing and harmonizing standard forms of contract
· Provide legal advice on disputes and oversee dispute resolution process, including coordination with external counsel
· Providing legal and contractual training as well as support to all functions
· General advice on day to day matters
Key Attributes
To be successful in this role you will ideally have:
· 7 years PQE as a practicing lawyer in the corporate and commercial areas, particularly front end construction matters
· Experience within either a recognised law firm or in-house legal department of a construction/infrastructure organisation
· Current practicing certificate
· Excellent communication and negotiation skills
· Developed interpersonal and influencing skills
· Highly organized with attention to detail
· Strong initiative
· Ability to work independently
· Solid experience in negotiating and drafting contracts
· Time management skills and the ability to prioritise
· Ability to multi-task
· International experience is desirable
Interstate travel will be necessary as and when required
