With its recognised industrial strategy, using standardised components and paying particular attention to design, Alstom Transport offers a range of rolling stock that combines technology, reliabilité, styling and comfort.
Alstom’s Metropolis product line is a blend of customization and standardization.
What really sets the Metropolis trains apart is the modular nature of its interior and exterior design. With its components standardized, the ultra-reliable system offers each operator the opportunity to personalize the exterior style of the cars – most notably the front face – and the interior fittings.
For the Americas market, Alstom Metropolis trains have its engineering and manufacturing performed Lapa industrial unit, in São Paulo, that is Alstom’s world excellence center for the manufacturing of stainless steel cars.
Metropolis was designed to offer the most relaxing environment possible and maximum comfort. Every aspect has been developed to provide the most pleasant and comfortable journey possible, the cars featuring ergonomic seating, warm materials, and brand new colouring and lighting.
Alstom is committed to integrating environmental considerations into the design of its Metropolis, in order to improve the reciclability of metros by using reusable materials such as steel, aluminium and copper, reduce noise nuisance both inside and out of the trains by using insulating materials and improving the wheel-rail contact with acoustic dampers, and reduce energy consumption levels in time of high energy prices.
Metropolis are equipped with Urbalis integrated system, the first train control system based on CBTC (communication-based train control) technology. This provides a constant radio link between the train and the control centre, thus reducing intervals between trains.
