Alstom Grid in China

China is the world’s largest transmission market in terms of size and volume, representing more than 18% of the world market in 2011. In addition, China is leading the way in pioneering new technologies especially UHV transmission. It is also a hub for the development of smart grid technologies, with the roll out of digital substations and other initiatives to achieve its ambitions to be the leader on Smart Grids in coming decades.

China is being identified as a key priority in Alstom Grid’s global strategy. “We are committed not only to localisation of manufacturing but also to local innovation”.

With its 10 factories, its 1800 employees and a number of joint ventures, Alstom Grid China offers the full scope of electrical equipment. With the specialised R&D center, Alstom China will support the development of UHVAC/DC solutions as well as 1100 kVAC transformers for the Chinese market, to help connect rich electrical power from the West to the populated region from the East.

Alstom will support China’s building a unified strong and smart grid based on UHV grid as backbone and grid management solutions, with progressive development of the grid on all levels.
