Alstom Grid in Finland

Alstom Grid designs, manufactures and supplies all the equipment and systems needed to transport electricity from power generation plants to large load centres or to large industrial sites. In facilitating the management of high voltage and ultra high voltage grids, Alstom Grid ensures that the electricity continues to be supplied around the globe, safely, securely and efficiently.

Alstom Grid in Finland

In Finland ALSTOM Grid Oy sells and markets all products and systems of the sector. Our factory in Tampere engineers and manufactures products and systems for reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering. Exports account for 90% of the factory output. Alstom Grid employs over 300 persons in Finland.

Products

Alstom Grid’s Products business unit represents a major part of its business activity. Accounting for more than 50% of Alstom Grid’s sales, the Products business unit designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of electrical equipment for the high voltage and ultra high voltage electricity transmission.

The product business unit designs and manufactures equipment ranging from 52 to 800 kV in direct current and up to 1200 kV in alternating current that enable electricity to travel from power stations via high voltage substations throughout the transmission grid.

Equipment includes circuit breakers: gas-insulated substations (GIS) and gas-insulated lines (GIL), air-insulated circuit breakers (live-tank and dead-tank); disconnectors,, power transformers and instrument transformers (including non-conventional instrument transformers). Alstom Grid is the world leader in disconnectors and instrument transformers.

Systems

Systems business unit is specialised in engineering and project management for large turnkey transmission projects, and special power supplies for electro-intensive industries.

The Systems business unit’s solutions provide the safest, most secure and most efficient way of transmitting large quantities of electricity over very long distances, making Alstom Grid a world leader in HVDC solutions. HVDC is the only way of interconnecting two asynchronous alternating current networks.
The quality of these alternating-current grids has also now grown significantly because of the FACTS (flexible alternating-current transmission systems) technologies in which Alstom Grid is one of the global specialists.

Automation

Alstom Grid’s Automation business unit provides utilities and industry with the mission critical software systems and equipment needed to manage the flow of electricity in transmission and distribution grids, ensure grid stability and to protect and control substations.

The sector is the global leader in network management systems, with major references throughout the world. For example, in the USA, Alstom Grid’s software manages five out of the seven energy markets and the sector has provided dispatching systems that control over 40% of the country’s energy flow.

Service

Like all the Alstom Group's Sectors, Alstom Grid recognises the importance of excellence in customer support and service. The Service business unit provides a range of after-sales operations (repair, refurbishment, spare parts) and consultancy, assessment and training services.
