Power transformers (PTR)
The scope of the Power Transformers Product Line (PTR) covers all types of power transformers and reactors for power generation, power transmission, electro-intensive industrial applications and rail/catenary applications. This includes the design and manufacture of power transformers up to the largest ratings and voltages, with references for years for 800 kV transformers.
Gas-insulated Substations (GIS)
The scope of the product line Gas-insulated Substations (GIS) is the worldwide activity of high voltage Gas-insulated Substations from 72,5 kV to 800 kV and, as a sub-product line, the worldwide development and manufacture of spring operating mechanisms for high voltage circuit breakers. Gas-insulated Substations’ equipment is used to interconnect and protect electrical networks around the world.
High Voltage Circuit Breakers (CBR)
The scope of the AIS (Air-insulated Switchgear) Circuit Breakers Product Line (CBR) is the worldwide activity of Live Tank and Dead Tank Circuit Breakers from 52 kV to 800 kV as well as Generator Circuit Breakers along with options of synchronizing relays and monitoring solutions. Our Air-insulated Switchgear equipment is used to interconnect and protect electrical networks around the world.
Instrument Transformers (ITR)
The Instrument Transformers product line (ITR) manages the business development, the production and the worldwide activity of 4 sub product lines:
• Instrument Transformers
• Power Compensation
• Bushings
• Digital Instrument Transformers (DIT)
Instrument Transformers ranges up to 1200 kV provide accurate and reliable current and voltage measurements for invoicing as well as for protection uses, bushings allow efficient connections between one component and the Grid and Power Compensation products help our customers to save CO2 and money by reducing electrical losses and harmonics level.
Disconnectors (DSC)
The scope of the Disconnectors Product Line (DSC PL) is to design, manufacture and distribute electro-mechanical switching devices that provide, in the open position, a reliable, visual isolating gap to ensure safety to human operators during maintenance operations. We have a complete range of indoor and outdoor disconnectors, from 72.5 kV to 1200 kV AC and 800 kV DC, for all types of substation layout and for all regions. DSC PL provides also High Voltage Power connectors.
SYSTEMS
High Voltage Substations
HV substations are placed at every junction of the grid and they include all the switchgear equipment and automation systems (protection and control) necessary to interconnect different grid sections together.
The technology is either GIS (Gas-Insulated Switchgear) or AIS (Air-Insulated Switchgear). In Finland we are offering the Turn Key substations only in special occasions.
HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current)
Direct Current (DC) is used instead of Alternating Current (AC) in following cases:
• Transmission of bulk electricity over distances longer than 700Km (point-to-point)
• Interconnection asynchronus networks. Known as "back-to-back" HVDC
interconnections, they link grids with different voltages and/or frequencies.
HVDC systems use power electronics valves and converter transformers to change the current from AC to DC and from DC to AC.
FACTS (Flexible AC transmission Systems)
Under the FACTS name they are several kinds of systems such as SVC, STATCOM….
They have two main functions:
• Based on similar power electronics, they support and improve the quality of AC power Fow.
• To integrate renewable energies into the grid.
It is effecient for distances less than 700 Km or when no new transmission rights-of-way can be acquired.

Connecting renewable energies to the grid
Whether for offshore wind or wavefarms or onshore wind or solar farms, the systems BU has a full selection of efficient turnkey solutions to make renewable energy connections possible:
• Voltage Source Converters - the newest type of HVDC connection offering bi-directional power flow and "Black-Start" capabilities.
• SUC Maxsine - a FACTS solution to improve power balance within the wind farm itself.
• AOP - the Alstom offshore platform is our sealed, floating and self-installing offshore HV substation. Alstom Grid is the first to make this totally turnkey technology to the market.

Substation Automation Solutions
MiCOM Alstom Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) such as protection relays and measurement devices and PACiS Substation Automation Control Systems are sold by Schneider Electric Oy in Finland.
