Mexico: Empowering indigenous communities to conserve the Papaloapan River watershed

This is the follow-up of a project that the Alstom Foundation supported in 2014.
To address the problems of deforestation, habitat loss and water contamination in the Chinantla region of Oaxaca, the project aims to develop the ongoing community-based conservation initiative through:
  • the restoration of degraded forest in the Papaloapan basin;
  • the promotion of the adoption of sustainable agricultural alternatives;
  • the introduction of technologies that reduce pressure on the environment;
  • environmental education and training for rural communities.
