Environmental friendliness

Minimising the environmental impact of our products and solutions is a daily concern for all of our teams. That is why our overall Sustainable Development strategy includes an Eco-Design program and a focus on developing products which provide better efficiency and greater respect for the environment..

Eco-Design is an approach that consists of integrating the environmental aspects in the design or the redesign of products. The objective is to minimize the environmental impact at each stage of a product’s life cycle: reduce the consumption of natural resources; limit rejects; and optimize recycling, waste management and the end life of our products.

Towards long-term sustainability
Alstom Grid’s ‘green’ solutions offer significant environmental benefits, including better product performance across up to seven ‘green’ criteria, and covering the three phases of the product life cycle:

  • Manufacturing: reduced consumption of natural resources
  • Operation: lower CO2 emissions, limitation of environmental risk, noise reduction, space savings and energy efficiency
  • End of life: recycling capabilities of products

As an example the Green Power Transformer* (10 to 200 MVA and up to 245 kV) is a sustainable, eco-efficient product optimised for low-loss levels and filled with ester oil instead of mineral oil.
