Traditionally for its Power sector and increasingly for its Transport sector, Alstom has been instrumental in charting the growth trajectory of India for almost 100 years, through its various key projects.
Power - In the field of power, India currently has a total installed generating capacity of 184GW, the majority of which is coal-fired. Alstom has many references in the country and is the market leader in thermal as well as hydro based power projects. It has been instrumental in building the biggest hydro projects in the country including Subansiri (8x250 MW), Uri II (4x60 MW). concentrated efforts are also being made to make India the world hub for hydro projects. In thermal projects, we have installed one of the most efficient CCPP project with Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (GSECL) in Utran. This 370 MW plant is an extension of the existing combined cycle power plant located at Utran, Surat District, State of Gujarat, India.
Transport - In Transport, Alstom is an active participator in the future projects of the Indian Railways – the fourth largest network in the world. Alstom Transport is dedicated to fulfilling Indian Railways’ commitment of expansion in capacity and modernization of railway technology and to increase the speed of both passenger and freight trains while improving safety. With the boom in metro market, Alstom aims to make deep inroads where urban transport is concerned. Chennai Metro Rail Limited has signed with Alstom Transport a €243 million contract to supply 168 cars and 16 additional metro cars for the metro of Chennai in India.
As a multi-specialist rail transport solutions supplier, Alstom has previously provided train control and signaling systems for the metro of Delhi and is installing them in the metro of Bangalore. Supply of track circuit for zonal railways and Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC), Indian Railways.
