Research and development in hydro power

Innovation driven technology, market oriented R&D initiatives

Alstom R&D in hydro power has contributed to breakthroughs in the fields of oil-free turbine components, generator oblique elements, variable speed technologies and double-stage adjustable pump turbines.

We put our customers at the centre of the process

Involved in all stages of the product development process, from customer need identification right through to after sales service. A high level of exchange in expertise across the R&D facilities benefits the customer through highly integrated innovative products and technologies. This is achieved through the use of common designs, quality standards and best practices within the R&D, engineering and manufacturing teams.

The Global Technology Centres are essential in reducing time-to-market for hydro products and technologies in response to constantly changing customer needs

Global Technology Centres have been established in Grenoble, France, and Baroda, India, in order to create in-house product designs and to ensure consistency in the design and development of Alstom Hydro products worldwide. Both technology centres house turbine scale-model test laboratories, with a total of 8 high-tech test rigs, used to carryout experimental testing on turbine scale models. This enables to validate the forecast performance and output test results obtained from calculation methods.

Alstom has a long history of collaborative research with top universities and research partners worldwide.
