The compressor upgrade, including some plant modifications, will improve the combined cycle output at Enfield power plant by approximately 27 MW. This upgrade brings the Enfield GT26 unit up to a similar output level as the present rating of a newly built GT26 gas turbine. A key feature of this Alstom equipment is that it can be easily upgraded in the future as technology advances.

To minimise the downtime of the power plant, all work will be undertaken during a planned outage starting in September 2007.

Mike Partrick, Enfield Plant Manager, E.ON UK, said: This upgrade will not only raise the rating of Enfield Power Station above 400MW, but it will also provide the foundation for future improvements to achieve even higher levels of efficiency and output, further lowering our carbon footprint.

Steven Jones, Managing Director, Alstom Power Service UK, said: Alstoms strategy is to ensure that advancements in technology can be applied wherever possible to support our clients installed fleet. This upgrade project competed against other investment opportunities in the E.ON portfolio and we are delighted that it has been given the go-ahead.

Alstom has recently won another order with E.ON in the UK for the construction of a 1,275 MW turnkey combined heat and power plant (CHP) at the Isle of Grain in Kent as well as a long-term service agreement for a twelve year period.
