IBM selected by Alstom for applications support and maintenance

Paris, France, Alstom and IBM announced, on 18 January 2011, the signature of a strategic co-sourcing 3-year agreement for external services in the area of applications support and maintenance except Engineering applications. Alstom, which operates in more than 70 countries, is a leader in transport infrastructure, power generation and transmission infrastructures. This agreement is based on an innovative co-management model and will allow Alstom and IBM to work on a balanced approach leveraging both internal and external IT resources for application management, focusing on business satisfaction, developing efficiency and effectiveness and improving agility and flexibility.

Within this framework, Alstom and IBM signed the first execution contract dealing with the external support and maintenance of SAP and Tibco applications. New execution contracts will be progressively signed to cover external services for other applications currently supported by a large number of suppliers.

For Alstom, this partnership aims to streamline our vendors portfolio for IT applications services and better adapt to our clients demand and evolutions. As a first step, we chose IBM to provide our Sectors with consistent services, standardise practices and reduced costs. We expect savings of up to 30% on external costs, said Massimo Spada, Alstom CIO. 

Under the provisions of this agreement, worldwide Alstom and IBM teams will work together to provide high performance services and optimized costs. Alstom employees will bring their in-depth knowledge of Business needs and Alstom solutions, and IBM employees their skills in IT maintenance and support required for the transport, energy and transmission industries.
