Alstom has been awarded a contract by the International group, Isolux Corsán to supply gas turbine equipment and associated services for a 180 MW simple cycle gas-fired power plant in the Khulna district of Bangladesh for the North West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL). The plant will be based on Alstoms GT13E2 gas turbine and will be capable of running on both gas and diesel, thus reducing any uncertainties in fuel supply.

Bangladeshs installed power generation capacity is 6.8 GW*, out of which, close to 75 per cent is provided by gas-fired generation. With power demand growing by 10 per cent annually, the Government of Bangladesh aims to augment supply capacity by adding close to 4.1 GW till the end of 2012. Gas-fired power plants such as Khulna form an important part of that objective.

Mark Coxon, Senior Vice President of Alstoms Gas Business, commenting on this contract said, Khulna is the first application of our GT13E2 technology in Bangladesh. We are committed to provide efficient and reliable power generation technology to fuel Bangladeshs economic growth and enable continuous and sustainable supply of electricity to its growing population.

* At the end of August 2011
