Alstom Grid, through its Indian subsidiary Areva T&D India Limited*, has been awarded a contract by Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC) to deliver a National Load Dispatch Center (NLDC). This NLDC represents the third largest national control center delivered by Alstom Grid in the region.

The project established a coordinated network management and control system between existing BPC substations, the Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC), other generating stations and the Indian national grid. Under the terms of the contract, Alstom delivers its world-leading e-terra suite of network management software applications to enable BPC to improve power reliability and stability, and better utilize power surplus.

The software will also coordinate Bhutans power exchange with the rest of the Indian grid. The fully automated energy management system has a scalable architecture that will allow BPC to easily adapt new smart grid technologies as needed.

This contract illustrates Bhutans sustained confidence in Alstoms innovative and advanced technology. This represents one more step in asserting Alstom Grids long-term commitment to delivering smart grid technologies and improving network efficiency, said Jean-Michel Cornille, Senior Vice-President, Grid Power Electronics and Automation at Alstom Grid.

Alstom Grids smart transmission technology manages today an important part of the electricity in the region, and in particular 70% of the power flow in Indias Grid. Previous references in the region include the successful deliveries of the NLDC in both India and Bangladesh.

*Important Note:

The high voltage activities described in this press release are under the operational control of Alstom Grid and carried out in India through Areva T&D India limited, a company publicly listed on the stock exchanges of India. On 7 June 2010, the global activities of Areva T&D were acquired by a consortium of Alstom and Schneider Electric. Following this acquisition, the High Voltage Transmission and the Power Electronics activities are to be carried on under the control of Alstom and the Medium Voltage activities under control of Schneider Electric.

In India on 3 December 2010, following the conclusion of a mandatory tender offer, Alstom and Schneider Electric announced that they had assumed operational control of Areva T&D India. The respective businesses will now be segregated in terms of a scheme of arrangement through a court process.

However, Areva T&D India will continue to operate under the Areva T&D name, until the appropriate judicial process has been completed according to Indian regulations.
