Alstom Power, the global leader in steam turbine retrofitting, has signed an agreement with GDF Suez Energia Polska S.A., which owns and operates Polands Polaniec power plant, to modernise the plants 200-megawatt (MW) steam turbine to match its new biomass boiler at unit 8.

Under the terms of the agreement, Alstom will engineer, deliver and commission new high pressure (HP) and intermediate pressure (IP) steam turbines. The scope also covers the modernisation of the turbine auxiliary systems and the assembly of the steam turbines, generator and exciter systems.

The new turbines will be manufactured in Alstoms facilities and the modernised unit will enter operation in October 2012.

When completed, the new turbine components will boost turbine cycle efficiency by 3,4%, improve the units availability and reliability, as well as extend the turbines design lifetime by 30 years.
