Alstom, the #2 worldwide in urban transport—to showcase its latest innovations in mass transit

Alstom will present its mass transit solutions at UITP— the ideal platform to highlight the worldwide challenges currently facing urban rail transport, namely safety, protection of the environment and increased mobility demands. According to UNIFE, the world market for Urban Transport is expected to represent over 28 billion EUR by 2016 (5% growth per year). In order to viably meet such challenges, Alstom pursues its latest innovations in sustainable urban transport—spanning metro, tramway, tram-train, Signalling/Services, Infrastructures and Turnkey systems.

Notably, Pierre Mongin - CEO of RATP and Philippe Mellier- President of Alstom Transport - will hold a press conference on Tuesday, April 12, at 10am. A specially themed press workshop will follow on April 13, showcasing the Dubai Tramway Turnkey project—the first turnkey tramway project in the Middle-East.

Highlighting a multi-specialist and multi-geographical presence, the Alstom 150 m2 stand will present the company’s innovative solutions in urban railway throughout the world. Visitors can discover and visualize concrete examples of Alstom’s technological expertise through video discovery tours dedicated to Infrastructures (APS system in Reims & Bordeaux; Appitrack in Reims), Signalling (Urbalis metro in New Delhi, Control Center in Sao Paolo); Urban Rolling stock (Citadis in Istanbul, Rabat; Metro train sets in Chennai, Santo Domingo, Istanbul); Services/Maintenance (metro of Sao Paolo, London, US and Dublin tram); and finally Alstom’s Turnkey systems via a mock-up of The AL Sufouh Tramway of Dubai.

As a local partner with the experience of a global company, Alstom is well positioned to respond to all opportunities arising from the 7 billion euro urban worldwide market (rolling stock). With a strong presence in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region, Alstom follows a dual strategy in this forecasted growth boom region: satisfying the increasing demand for access to transport using proven, innovative and environment-friendly solutions; strengthening its participation in local economies by developing partnerships. A key example particularly relevant to UITP’s 59th World Congress and Exhibition is the Al Sufouh tramway project in Dubai—the first city in the Middle East to have a turnkey tramway system. Other recent Alstom contract wins in this region include: a 120 Million Euro contract to supply 74 tram sets to Morocco’s Casa Transports; a contract providing signaling and electrical power supply for the city of Casablanca’s future tramway network; contract for completion and maintenance of Citadis trams for Tunis, Tunisia.
