Alstom has signed a contract with the Russian company RESAD to supply one GT13E2 gas turbine to the Molzhaninovka power plant in Russia. The contract, booked during the fiscal year 2010/2011, signifies the first entry of Alstoms GT13E2 turbine, the most efficient turbine of its class, into the Russian gas market.

Russia, the worlds biggest country, has the largest natural gas reserves in the world and is the worlds greatest exporter of natural gas. Gas is Russias main domestic fuel, accounting for over half of the countrys primary energy demand.

Alstoms contract with RESAD covers the delivery of the gas turbine for the first phase of construction of the Molzhaninovka gas fired combined cycle power plant near Moscow, scheduled to be fully operational by December 2012.
Alstom has been present in the Russian gas power market since 2006, when the company won a turnkey order for a new 420 MW unit at the Mosenergo gas fired cogeneration power plant near Moscow - the countrys first turnkey energy project to be handed to a foreign EPC contractor. Alstom delivered the entire unit and all major components, and was responsible for engineering, procurement, and commissioning.

Mark Coxon, Senior Vice President Gas, said: Alstoms GT13E2 gas turbine offers the highest efficiency to produce power, in an economical and environmentally friendly way. This order brings the number of Alstoms GT13E2 gas turbines in the worldwide market to 144, providing more than 28 GW of efficient and reliable power to more than 20 million people in 32 countries, and we are proud that this now includes Russia.
