Alstom signed in October 2010 a 320 million contract with Keppel Merlimau Cogen (KMC) Pte Ltd to build a new 800 MW power plant in Singapore. KMC has now given Alstom the notice to proceed to carry out phase 2 of the project, for an additional 300 million euros.

KMC is a unit of Keppel Energy Pte Ltd, the energy division of Singapore-based Keppel Corporation Limited.

Phase two of the contract, worth just around 300 million, includes an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the construction of a second 400 MW gas-fired combined cycle unit and a long-term service agreement (LTSA). Alstom is providing the entire unit and all associated equipment, including one GT26 gas turbine, one steam turbine and one heat recovery steam generator and an ALSPA Series 6 integrated control system. Alstoms combined cycle technology, based on its GT26 gas turbine, is among the most efficient and reliable technologies currently available.

The first phase of the contract included an EPC contract for the construction of the first 400 MW gas-fired combined cycle unit and LTSA.

When completed, the new power plant will increase the companys production capacity to 1,300 MW, highlighting the companys role as one of Singapores main energy providers, and will add around 10% to the countrys capacity for electricity generation.

Alstom built KMCs existing 500 MW combined cycle power plant which entered commercial operation in 2007, on which it is currently carrying out an 18-year operation and maintenance contract. This highlights the strength of Alstoms relationship with KMC.

This contract underlines Alstoms competitiveness in Asia for combined cycle power plants. said Philippe Joubert, President of Alstom Power. We have every intention of building on this success and continue implementing our growth strategy in Asia.
