Alstom Grid, the global expert in electrical grid performance, has been awarded a contract by Mexicos state-owned power utility, Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), to deliver seven new substations and 11 overhead transmission lines in the neighbouring states of Puebla, Veracruz and Oaxaca, in partnership with Sademex, Ingeniería y Construcción.

This is the largest contract awarded by CFE this year, which will be shared between Alstom Grid and Sademex, with Alstom Grids share being worth 31 million. Once completed, the length of the 11 transmission lines will total 183 km and the energy capacity of the three states will increase by 1000 MVA.

Alstom Grid is fully committed to building long-term partnerships in Mexico. In addition to working with local subcontractors for civil and site erection works, more than 30 percent of equipment and materials will be produced in Alstom Grid manufacturing sites.

Alstom Grids scope includes the design, manufacture and installation of the seven 4oo kV/115 kV substations, along with circuit breakers, disconnectors, current transformers and power transformers being produced by Alstom Grid. The turnkey project will be led and executed by Alstom Grid in Mexico.

Commenting on the win, Grégoire Poux-Guillaume, Alstom Grid President said, CFEs choice of Alstom Grid as a main partner reinforces our position as a leading player in Mexico. We look forward to continuing to support CFE in its development of Mexicos transmission infrastructure to facilitate the increasing power generation capacity.

CFE generates, distributes and markets electricity to approximately 100 million people across the country. The contract win is part of an ambitious plan to develop the nations electrical infrastructure in order to keep pace with steadily growing power generation capacity. This project will also allow CFE to reinforce and increase the flexibility of the existing electrical network. It is due to be commissioned in January 2013.
