Alstom is celebrating the success of 24 of its Stafford-based Grid employees who have achieved gold stars all round and completed NVQs.

Delivered and funded by Enterprising Future, part of the Aspire Group, the Stafford-based Alstom Grid employees participated in work-based courses to achieve NVQs in areas such as business and administration, warehousing and storage and customer service. The year-long interactive courses were designed to develop employees skills while achieving a nationally recognised qualification, all within the workplace.

I really enjoyed the course and it inspired me to go on to look at further education courses, said Caron Burrows, a Production Planner based in Stafford, who achieved an NVQ in Customer Service.

Tracy Johnson, HR Manager  Stafford SAS business unit,  says providing employees with the opportunity to achieve nationally recognised qualifications is essential not only for the growth of the business but also for the development of the individual.

This has been a record year with great success, and the feedback from the employees has been extremely positive, she said.

NVQs allow employees to gain a qualification for what they do in their day job without having to go back to school. I think its important as a business that we provide training opportunities for everyone and Im pleased to say that well be continuing to offer the NVQ programme to even more employees over the coming year.

Alstom Grid is the largest private employer in Stafford, with over 2,000 employees across three sites, and is currently recruiting around 100 new staff.
