Alstom Grid will build a new site for electrical grid bushings  in Sesto San Giovanni, near Milan (Italy). The new plant will be Alstom Grids Bushings worldwide competence centre for the research, development and production of transformer bushings (direct and alternating current), wall bushings,  gas insulated substation bushings and high-voltage generator bushings.

Alstom will invest 34 million in the project, 11 million of which will be allocated to the development and industrialisation of innovative technologies such as HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and RIP (Resin Impregnated paper). A new test laboratory will also be set up for testing bushings for high voltage direct and alternating current transformers, aimed at power transformer manufacturers worldwide as well as wall bushings used in worlwide utilities DC yards.
Around 120 people will work on the new facilities, 30 of whom will be dedicated to research and development. The site will also host all operations currently based in Alstom Grids Milan unit.

Alstom Grid Italy currently employs 400 people across three plants, including Noventa di Piave (VE) plant, an excellence centre for high-voltage disconnectors with research and development teams as well as manufacturing site for hybrid solutions and circuit breakers. The Alstom Group has been present in Italy since 1998 with 13 units and has approximately 3,500 people working in the domains of power generation, transmission and railway transport. In the financial year 2010/2011, the company turnover in Italy reached 1.2 billion.
