Alstom, a global leader in power generation technology, today announced the award of two contracts in India one for the supply of a Fume Treatment Plant at National Aluminium Companys (NALCO) Angul plant and the other for the supply of a Stock House Dust Extraction System at Rastriya Ispat Nigam Limiteds (RINL) Vizag steel plant. In total, these contracts are worth more than 12 million. Both these orders strengthen Alstoms leadership position as a provider of Air Quality Control Systems (AQCS) for the competitive Indian market.

Alstoms scope of supply for the Fume Treatment Plant at NALCOs Angul plant will include a Gas Conditioning Tower for cooling of the gas followed by the Alstom patented ABARTTM Fabric Filter system, ducts, dampers and electrical control systems. Alstoms ABARTTM Fabric Filter system is unique because of its integrated reactor, which ensures a perfect mixing of gas and alumina. This system is part of the capital repair plan to reduce the emission of particulates and tar at the plant. Alstom technology was selected thanks to its well-proven and cost effective solution.  This order is NALCOs 10th contract with Alstom since 1981 and represents Alstoms continuous ability to deliver quality products for customers as well as good relationships between both companies.

As for the Stock House Dust Extraction System at RINLs Vizag steel plant, Alstom will install a new Air Pollution Control System replacing the existing one with new duct systems, electrostatic precipitator, dampers and electrical control systems. The electrostatic precipitator is featured with Alstoms proprietary Transformer Rectifier and control technology, leading to high removal efficiency, low power consumption and compact layout. The customer specifically chose Alstom due to Alstoms extensive experience in providing customized retrofit solution, seamlessly integrated into the existing production process. When completed, the Alstom system will improve energy efficiency as well as the working environment at the plant.

Francois Carpentier, Vice President, Thermal and Renewable Power, Alstom India said: We are witnessing sustained growth in the environmental control systems business. These latest contracts are further proof that utilities and industrial customers in India value our world-leading air quality control solutions. Alstoms focus will be to ensure the application of the most effective and efficient environmental control technology for both these plants.

Alstoms ECS business unit in Kolkata will handle the execution activities associated with supply of the Fume Treatment Plant and the Stock House Dust Extraction System. This further demonstrates the strong capabilities of Alstoms ECS operations in India.

To-date, Alstom has installed more than 90 ABARTTM Fabric Filter systems and 1100 electrostatic precipitators worldwide.
