Alstom T&D India wins 960 MINR contract from MSETCL for 400 kV Gas-insulated substation in Maharashtra, western India

28/05/2012

Alstom T&D India has been awarded a contract worth 960 MINR from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co Ltd (MSETCL), for the erection, testing and commissioning of a 400/220 kV Gas-insulated Substation in the Hinjewadi district of Pune, in Maharashtra state. The contract will also include associated civil work for the substation.

Hinjewadi is the emerging IT centre of Maharashtra and planned infrastructure development is increasing the demand for power. The GIS substation, having a transformation capacity of 7x167 MVA will help in meeting the energy demands of the area while eradicating land scarcity issues, as GIS technology allows the substation to be more compact. The GIS substations are highly reliable and help to reduce pollution. Alstom T&D India was the first company in the country to localise GIS technology up to 400 kV at its manufacturing facility in Padappai, (Chennai), in southern India.

Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India, declared: “Adding to our strong order backlog, this new contract reinforces our expertise in offering advanced and reliable GIS technology. We hold the record for having the highest number of GIS bays installed in the country. Since 2009, we have supplied more than 110 GIS bays to various customers in India. This success also reinforces our partnership with MSETCL as Alstom T&D India is playing an important role in building the transmission network in the State of Maharashtra.”
