Alstom’s Knoxville Team Welcomes Daughters and Sons for Day of Interactive Learning
On Thursday, May 3, 2012, Alstom’s Environmental Control Systems (ECS) team in Knoxville, Tennessee will open its doors to a few younger members of the company’s extended family.
Alstom is re-launching its popular Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work(SM) program, sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women, a national organization committed to social justice.
Throughout the day, young guests ages eight through fifteen along with their parents and guardians will participate in a series of interactive learning activities to show them how work done every day in Knoxville leads to cleaner air and a greener energy future.
The day’s festivities will include:
- A Scanvenger Hunt of the 100 Countries where Alstom has a presence
- A Tower Building competition with top prize going to the team with the tallest structure, or the one that stands longest
- Interactive ‘It’s All About Safety’ puzzles
- An ‘On the Move’ team activity that teaches the importance of lessons learned
- An introduction to Alstom’s products and services from a company technology expert
“Our families make it possible for each of us to come here to Alstom and work on projects that are shaping the future of our planet,” added Jim Yann, Managing Director of Alstom’s North American Environmental Control Systems business. “We owe them a lot, and today is about giving our sons and daughters a chance to see firsthand what their parents and guardians do every day. If we’re lucky, some of these young women and men may be interested enough to come back and work for us in a few years.”
In addition to showcasing activities that take place at Alstom’s Knoxville facility, the Alstom team will talk to their young ladies and gentlemen about the importance of pursuing education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics so they can work on the clean energy, smart grid and sustainable rail transportation projects of tomorrow.
