Alstom is at the forefront of developing the next generation of technologies for cleaner power generation and is part of the leading Humber Clusters bid to secure a commercial scale CCS* plant at the Drax power station in Yorkshire.

The project was named the White Rose CCS Project after the county symbol of Yorkshire, where the project is based. The proposal will comprise a state-of-the-art coal-fired power plant that is equipped with full carbon capture and storage technology.  Alstom will have responsibility for construction of the power plant together with the C02processing unit.

Globally, the project will go a long way in tackling climate change and reducing C02 emissions whilst locally, several jobs will be available and there will be a positive impact on the turnover of local businesses.

*Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a technology driven process that enables the C02 emissions from industrial to be captured and stored permanently deep underground rather than released to the atmosphere
