Alstom and its consortium partner Hydrochina Huadong Engineering Corporation have been awarded a contract worth around 20 million by Vinacomin Power Holding Corporation to supply electro-mechanical equipment for Dong Nai 5 hydropower project. Alstoms share in the total consortium contract is approximately 10 million. The scope of the contract includes the design, manufacturing, delivery to site and supervision of erection of two sets of 77 MW Turbine & Generator as well as mechanical and electrical auxiliaries. They are scheduled to be put into commercial operation in August, 2015.

The turbines and generators will be manufactured at Alstoms hydropower industrial facility in Tianjin (China). The facility is Alstoms largest hydropower manufacturing base and a leading supplier of equipment in China and across Asia.

Located on the Dong Nai river, Dak Nong and Lam Dong provinces, the Dong Nai 5 hydropower plant is invested by Vinacomin Power with a total investment of 227 million. The project includes two units with a capacity of 154 MW (77×2), and will generate and supply to national grid about 616 GWh per year. This project is also part of Power Development Master Plan VII of Vietnam government.

Vinacomin Power is one of the three state owned power producers in Vietnam, with 4 coal fired power plants in operation and three further plants under construction. Alstom has already a long and successful partnership with Vinacomin Power, having notably supplied two sets of 50 MW Coal-fired boilers to its Cao Ngan Coal Fired Power Plant in 2003.

This contract reinforces Alstom's leading position in Vietnams hydropower market. Our customer has shown their continued trust and recognition in Alstoms technology and expertise in power solutions. We are very proud to contribute to meet the countrys growing demands for energy, said Jerome Pecresse, President of Alstom Renewable Power.

Present in Vietnam for more than 20 years, Alstom is continuing to play a very significant role in the Vietnamese power development plan. After the recent contract awards for 1,200 MW Lai Chau, 520 MW Huoi Quang and 156 MW Song Bung 4 Hydro Power Plants, Alstom announced end of September 2012 the successful grid synchronisation of the sixth and last turbine & generator set of the 2400 MW Son La power plant, the largest hydropower plant in Vietnam and South East Asia.
