Alstom Grid in China has successfully commissioned its highest-rated generator transformer after completing all on-site tests. Manufactured for the countrys Guangdong Huaxia Yangxi Power Plant (Yangxi Plant located in Yangjiang, Guangdong province, South China). It is the largest transformer in terms of power capacity (780 MVA) that Alstom has ever commissioned in China.

Alstom is also supplying another transformer to the Yangxi plant which has passed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and is ready for erection and commissioning. This plant is an important power source for the Guangdong province with a total capacity of 6.52 million kW. .

The 780 MVA 525 kV three-phase transformers were manufactured by the SEC Alstom (Wuhan) Transformers Co., Ltd. (SAWT)[1] . The Yangxi project represented a significant challenge to SAWT as this was the first time that the factory has built transformers of this size and capacity. The entire production process from design to delivery was completed in five months.

"This delivery is a huge success for Wuhan, which is one of the most advanced transformer factories in the world. Earlier this year, we also delivered HVDC converter transformers to Rio Madeira in Brazil, the worlds longest power transmission line," said Maurice Dres, Alstom Grid Vice-President for the China Region. "We are committed to delivering state-of-the-art-technology and products with the highest quality standards to both our Chinese customers and around the world."

[1]Founded in 2007, SAWT is a joint venture between Alstom Grid and the Shanghai Electric Group. It has around 180 employees and an annual production capacity of around 20,000 MVA. SAWT is the worlds first green transformer plant, recognised for its continued commitment to environmentally-friendly design and management. The factory was awarded the 2011 National Investment Projects Excellence Award by Investment Association of China and has been certified for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) since 2009.
