Régiolis, the first next-generation regional train, was delivered today to Granville station in the Lower Normandy region. The ceremony was attended by Laurent Beauvais, President of the Lower Normandy region, Guillaume Pepy, President of de SNCF and Jérôme Wallut, Managing director of Alstom Transport France. The region ordered 15 Régiolis trains from Alstom in December 2009. The first trains will start running between Paris and Granville (327 km) in summer 2014.

Part of Alstom's Coradia range, Régiolis is modular and capable of adapting to the needs of each different region. It is available in three lengths (56, 72 or 110m) and three levels of comfort designed to suit various journey lengths (suburban, regional and inter-city).

At 110m long (six cars), the version selected by the Lower Normandy region is the longest in the range. This is the first time that this particular version has been presented to the public. Each train has a seating capacity of 326. The seats are designed to provide passengers with extra comfort and feature magazine racks, foot rests and electrical sockets for improved conditions on board the train. Régiolis trains are bimodal (running on diesel or dual voltage electricity: 25 kV and 1500 V).

The trains are both ecological and economical, thanks to their low energy consumption (10 to 15% of the energy consumption and therefore lower CO2 emissions compared with previous generations of trains) and their lower maintenance costs.

The manufacturing of Régiolis trains generates more than 4,000 jobs in France at Alstom and its suppliers. 6 out of 10 Alstom facilities in France are taking part in the project: Reichshoffen for the design and the assembly, Ornans for the motors, Le Creusot for the bogies, Tarbes for the traction systems, Villeurbanne for the on-board computer systems and Saint-Ouen for the design.

To date, 216 Coradia Polyvalent trains have been ordered as part of the contract awarded to Alstom by the SNCF in 2009: 182 Régiolis trains ordered by 12 regions in France and 34 Coradia Liner trains ordered by the French government for the regional TET (Trains dEquilibre du Territoire) lines.
