Alstom inaugurated its Rabigh Thermal Services workshop today in Rabigh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the presence of Mr. Ali Bin Saleh Al Barrak, CEO and President of Saudi Electricity Company and Mr. Philippe Cochet, President Alstom Thermal Power. Strengthening Alstoms long-term local presence, the Rabigh workshop meets reconditioning and repair needs quickly and efficiently. Alstoms Rabigh workshop will enhance localisation and training, while providing new services that are faster and more flexible than any other in the Kingdom.

Delivering international original equipment manufacturer (OEM) standards at a competitive, local price, the workshops main function will be the repair of large rotors for steam and gas turbines, as well as generators, along with reconditioning of structural components for gas turbines. The range of services will be extended later to cover other plant components and balance of plant (BoP).

Cost of electricity will be reduced by cutting customer operational and maintenance (O&M) costs, and by prolonging the life of critical components. A lowered environmental footprint will result from minimising transport and its associated emissions. At the same time, flexibility and reliability will be enhanced by shortening outage times and by modifying equipment to meet changing needs.

Alstoms partnership with Saudi Arabia has been growing for over 50 years. It has seen Alstom equipping over 20% of the Kingdoms power generation base and investing heavily in its resources and people. This move reflects Alstom's on-going commitment to localisation within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and offers strong market opportunities across the Middle East. The factory located near Jeddah employs around 30 local people to start with.

Nader Abdellatif, Country President, Saudi Arabia said- Building the new workshop in the Western Region enhances Alstoms local presence and brings its world-class technology within easy reach to our main customers, primarily Saudi Electricity Company. It complements the Jebel Ali facility in the UAE to double Alstoms service workshop capacity in this part of the Middle East.

Philippe Cochet, President of Alstom Thermal Power commented that Alstom has had one success after another in the Kingdom including: contributing to the Shoaiba power plant, equipping the Yanbu power plant, and the recent success of supplying steam turbine generators for Shuqaiq. This reinforces an on-going mutually beneficial relationship with the Kingdom that dates back to 1951. Our ultimate goal is to be contributing to the Kingdoms advancement through strong local partnerships and furthering our local capabilities.
