US Country President, Amy Ericson, participated in the first summit in a series to focus national attention on the most critical challenges and opportunities to strengthen US competitiveness, by strengthening the nations energy and manufacturing ecosystems.

This annual forum, held in Washington D.C. on December 12, brought together over 600 leaders from across the energy industry, government, academia, and the national laboratories to increase US production of next-generation, clean energy products, and US manufacturing competitiveness.

Amy Ericson took part in a session entitled Carpe Manufacturing! Leveraging Americas Advantages for US Energy and Manufacturing Competitiveness, centered on how the US can leverage its world class research and development institutions, skilled labor-force, and robust entrepreneurial and investment ethos.  The panel also discussed how government policies, programs, and initiatives are central to support this goal. Ericsons answers focused on the importance of producing clean, reliable and lower cost electricity to reduce U.S. manufacturing costs downstream. Amy also cited the significance of shale gas on the role of gas power generation in backing up renewables and importance of a strong grid to balance and integrate renewable energy sources.

Electricity is key to a robust manufacturing industry; however we must also focus on the environmental footprint and reliability of that electricity said Amy Ericson, Alstom US Country President, during her panel.  We are working with partners ,such as the Department of Energy, to develop and demonstrate cutting edge technology like offshore wind, smart grid, and carbon capture to reduce electricitys environmental footprint and ensure 24/7 reliability.

This first-of-its-kind summit was hosted by the American Energy and Manufacturing Competitiveness (AEMC) Partnership, the Council on Competitiveness and the Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).
