Alstom Hydro China (AHC) announced the launch of “Alstom Forest” Project in Tianjin today. A total of 800 trees will be planted at the Tianjin Airport Economic Zone. Representatives from Tianjin Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, Tianjin Airport Economic Zone, AHC and Global Village of Beijing (GVB) jointly inaugurated the “Alstom Forest”. This is part of AHC’s comprehensive environmental and social responsibility programme called “Tree Saving, Life Protection”.
Alstom provided financial support of 500,000 RMB to the “Tree Saving, Life Protection” programme, with the objective to increase awareness of environmental protection and threat of desertification among local people especially students.
From last November, working together with GVB, Alstom has held 36 lectures on environmental protection at local schools, universities and communities in Tianjin with more than 10,000 people participation. Books, DVDs and “Tree Bags” (containing recycled chopsticks and cotton napkin) were also provided for free to participants of each event.
The “Alstom Forest” project gained substantial support from Tianjin municipal government and Tianjin Airport Economic Zone, where AHC is located.
It aims to turn undeveloped area into a green belt, which helps block the sandstorm and serves as a good place of outdoor leisure for local community.
“Alstom considers the care for the environment in which we operate as central issues for us. ‘Alstom Forest’ Project is a true testimony of our commitment to environmental preservation in the country. With this tree planting event, we strive to make our contributions to China’s unremitting efforts to combat desertification,” said Yves Rannou, General Manager of Alstom Hydro China.
