Alstom has successfully activated the ACC-M railway signalling system a computerised multi-station interlocking to allow private operator Ferrotramviaria S.p.A  to have real-time information, to manage efficiently and safely 180 trains a day, while guaranteeing a rapid and timely response when needed on the new Bari airport link in Italy (from Bari central Station and to Airport Station).  First system of its kind for regional railway in Italy, it is also one of the most extensive modernisation of the Bari-Barletta line that includes civil engineering, electrification, track modifications and new signalling equipment. This project which started in 2011 was delivered as scheduled.

The Alstom multi-station Smartlock 300Z and ICONIS solutions will allow to manage up to 180 trains a day circulating on a 7.7 km line between Bari and Bitonto, most of which is in tunnels or cuttings. Twelve regional trains produced by Alstom will serve the line.

Together with Alstom Supervision and Control interface, the multi-station interlocking integrates the management and diagnostics of multiple sub-systems of public information, telephony, telecommunications, anti-trespass, fire detection, videosurveillance and access control.

More than 50 people from the Alstom sites of Bari (a railway signalling research and development centre) and Bologna (a railway signalling centre of excellence) were involved in designing and producing the ACC-M railway signalling system, the control centre of Fesca San Girolamo, and the public information, telephony and telecommunications plant. The Alstom site of Guidonia, specialised in railway infrastructures, also contributed by electrifying Fesca station and the stretch of metro line connecting Bari Fesca with Quartiere San Paolo.
