Face Lift for Moss View Scout Hut

Partington Parish Council (PC) members were delighted when their request for funding to renovate the Moss View Scout Hut received a positive response from Alstom and DF Energy to the tune of £5,000.

Alstom and DF Energy, the companies building the nearby Carrington gas-fired power station, agreed to help towards the renovation and refurbishment costs of the much-loved community facility.

The Scout Hut has been around since the 1970s and has been regularly used by local Beaver, Scout and Explorer groups for decades. However, Partington PC is keen for the facilitys uses to be expanded.

Cllr John Smith, treasurer at Partington PC, said: The renovation work will allow multiple groups to access this community centre, such as girls and boys football teams, or a boxing club, and a youth centre and community functions could also be held within the facility.  Were very grateful to Alstom and DF for their generous donation towards this community project.  The money will be used to ensure a complete electrical refit of the building is undertaken.

Anthony Wilson, from Alstom, said: Its important that local facilities such as this are maintained and made available to a wide range of community members.  We were happy to help with the renovation work costs, and look forward to seeing the end results.

Joanne Sheehan, from DF, said: It was quite apt that the money should go towards an electrical refit, with our history in the electricity industry.  We wish them the best of luck with their additional funding challenges.

Cllr James Clare, Chair of Partington PC, said: Alstom and DF have been very generous, and have made a huge impact on many local facilities and events and we appreciate all the good causes that they have sponsored.

Renovation of the scout hut will start over the next few months. Additional help is being provided by local companies and individuals for building work and decorations.  It is hoped that the facility will be fully functional by Summer 2015.

Alstom

In the UK, Alstom has built and now maintains and operates over half the countrys gas-fired power plants, including a 1,650MW plant in Nottinghamshire, a 2,160MW plant in Pembrokeshire, a 900MW plant in Devon and a 1,275MW plant in Kent.

DF specialises in the development of complex, integrated projects such as gas-fired power stations, industrial plants and fuel storage. The company carries out end-to-end project processes that include engineering, procurement, construction, erection, commissioning, operation and maintenance.

At Carrington, DF will be responsible for all the civil works, electrical and mechanical works and the construction and balance of the plant equipment.

The new power station is being developed by Carrington Power Limited, which is owned by ESB.
