Alstom Grid, a leader in the commercialisation of innovative solutions for energy management, has signed a 3-year partnership with DotVision, an innovative player in the development of smart connected objects for energy control, to optimise the management of power consumption in cities.

As part of this partnership, Alstom's e-terraDRBizNet solution will be coupled to the energy metre Spoony, intelligent hardware developed by DotVision and winner of an award from the Systématic innovation centre in June 2014. On the basis of knowledge belonging to both entities, Alstom Grid and DotVision aim to jointly distribute a new connected product-solution offering, as an open ecosystem, serving intelligent management of power consumption in towns.

The joint solution offers an integrated end-to-end control chain for automatic deletion programs, improved peak load management, system services for the power grid, and a GPS system for applying energy mapping.

The smart grid enables two-way real-time information exchange. Demand management systems take advantage of that by encouraging residential and business consumers to reduce electricity use at peak times, or to vary their usage to coincide at an hour when demand is lower. Improving energy efficiency in buildings and towns is a major energy challenge for the coming years, requiring new means of monitoring, controlling and optimising energy via the "Smart Building" and "Smart Cities" approach to make buildings and cities more communicative, and more intelligent.
