After a year of intense commercial promotion, Alstom Grid´s centre of excellence for mobile substations located in Madrid is currently developing projects in 5 different countries. The excellence centre is working for Dominon Virginia Power (USA), ESB International (Ireland), EON (Spain), PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela) and Electricaribe (Colombia).

Early in 2014, the Alstom Group decided to reinforce the Spanish facilities, which have become  a worldwide reference in the design, development and manufacturing of mobile substations. In this role, Spanish teams have strengthened commercial activities in Colombia, Peru, Ghana, Morocco, Ireland, Norway, Turkey, UAE, etc.

Substations form an essential part of the generation, transformation, transmission and distribution process of power to the end customer. Occasionally, the equipment housed in an electric substation is affected by maintenance operations, improvement works or even catastrophes. In these cases, and to guarantee supply, Alstom Grid provides its customers with a range of mobile substations.

Mobile substations are designed to distribute electricity on a temporary basis to areas that have lost their power supply and enable winning time to conduct any necessary repairs, maintenance or equipment changes. They are also used, on occasions, to temporarily increase a specific substations capacity. Given that they can be installed anywhere in a matter of hours, they have become an essential tool to guaranteeing supply in the current electrical system.
