Alstom is accommodating a new logistics centre for the storage and management of rail components on its factory premises in Salzgitter. The new centre, to be completed by the end of 2014, will improve the logistics processes at the site, provide for cost-effective execution and ensure the optimum supply of components for the production sites on the factory premises. The logistics centre will cover an area of 30,500 m² and will be constructed on a plot of land covering a total of approximately 62,000 m².

The investor is Hamburg-based property developer Garbe Logistic AG, which is planning and building the modern logistics property for Alstom. Garbe will lease the new property to Alstom for 15 years.

With the new centre, we are taking a decisive step towards centralising our logistics activities at Salzgitter. With Garbe as our partner, we have at our side an experienced property developer that is building a modern logistics centre for us and thereby helping to make our processes in the factory even more efficient as well as increase our competitiveness, says Jörg Nuttelmann, Site Manager of the Alstom location in Salzgitter.

With Alstom as leasing company, we are managing an interesting investment at the technology and vehicle manufacturing location of Salzgitter, says Christopher Garbe, member of the management board of Garbe Logistic AG. We are deepening our focus on Salzgitter.

Logivest from Munich was involved as a consultant in the entire decision-making process, from planning to construction and the design of logistics processes. Manfred Jenschke, Senior Consultant at Logivest, says: Managing and planning in such a way that, on the one hand, the operators individual requirements could be taken into account and, on the other, the criteria for a logistics property suitable for re-rented use were fulfilled was a complex task. Together with Alstom and Garbe, a concept for a property with long-term usability that can be applied according to requirements is now being implemented.
