Alstom and the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) signed today a Framework Agreement on Establishing Strategic Alliance on Advanced Open Systems for Smart Cities, in presence of Ronan Stephan, Group Chief Innovation Officer of Alstom and Professor Way KUO, President and University Distinguished Professor of City University of Hong Kong.

The agreement signed between Alstom and CityU[1] concerns three areas. CityU will assist Alstom in recruiting talents and identifying research results with commercialization potential in the field of energy and transport through a joint research center dedicated to smart cities. They will also collaborate in education and executive training focusing on energy and transport (Alstom will provide free training on its platform to masters and/or PhD students from CityU). Finally, Alstom will support an incubator program in CityU to enhance the local innovation eco-system and to support young entrepreneurships. With more than 20,000 students and more than 3,000 faculty members, research and supporting staff, CityU is considered as a strategic partner for Alstom to invent and develop the next generation of Advanced Open Systems for Smart Cities.

Innovation is a key differentiating factor that Alstom leverages. In order to be at the forefront of the technology and to get the highest standards in terms of performance and sustainability for energy production, transmission and conversion, the Group encourages open innovation strategies. The objective is to stimulate cross sector synergies and to facilitate partnerships and alliances in the different market where the Group operates.

As a global player Alstom has a major presence in all leading growth economies and is therefore aiming to be a dedicated contributor of eco-friendly power and transport solutions to support sustainable urbanisation in China where the group has a significant footprint (30 sites and 10,000 employees).
