In February 2014, Alstom Grid delivered the Alférez Substation to the city of Cali, whose power quality and capacity contribute to the expansion of the interconnected system of the national grid of Colombia.
The opening of the substation was attended by the Minister of Mines and Power of Colombia, Amylkar Acosta Medina, and the President of the Empresa de Energía de Bogotá, Sandra Stella Fonseca. The Alférez GIS (Gas Insulated Substation) Substation, of 230kV, is operated by Empresa de Energía de Bogotá.
“Alstom is proud to have an important role in the development of the national grid in Colombia”, said Juan Jorge Celis, president of Alstom Colombia. The Alférez Substation will allow to meet the growth of the demand for power in the city’s south area, ensure high levels of reliability for western Colombia and ensure the future connection of the double circuit from the Quimbo central, whose generators and turbines are also managed by Alstom.
In the long term, there will be a future expansion to 500 kV, targeted at the Interconnection foreseen with the Andean countries.
