Alstom Grid has been awarded a 4 million contract by Companhia Hidroelétrica do São Francisco (CHESF), one of the largest transmission utilities in Brazil, to supply the future telecommunication data transmission system, Optical Transport Network (OTN), for the largest part of CHESFs network (42 substations and three regional operation centers covering northeast Brazil). It is the first time a Latin American utility will use an innovative Optical Transport Network to streamline data transmission and optimize network performance.

Alstoms scope includes the delivery, integration, testing, site installation, trial and warranty of the system. The OTN, which operates on optical fibers at a laser speed of 10 gigabytes per second, will accelerate telecommunication services on various levels. It will carry out enterprise applications such as day-to-day business operations, and provide mission-critical services, ensuring rapid communication for protection and control purposes between dispatch control centers, grid networks and major applications that require high levels of power availability. The new data transmission system will optimize grid management in real-time, streamlining operations and ensuring a steady supply of power at all times.

For Sergio Gomes, Vice-President of Alstom Grid, Alstoms delivery of the next-generation OTN telecommunication technology underscores our commitment to providing valuable Smart Grid solutions in Brazil and around the world.
