Alstoms Network Management Solutions (NMS) business is launching its new Grid Stability Package at the annual CIGRE energy committee conference in Paris.

This new solution, developed by Alstoms Redmond, WA based NMS team, will help utility customers maintain grid reliability as they cope with a myriad of factors stressing power grids, including increasing energy demand, rising prices, renewable integration and a fluid and evolving regulatory and policy environment. By 2030, electricity demand is forecasted to grow 50 to 70 percent, and renewable sources are expected to grow 30 percent globally by 2035.

Alstoms Grid Stability Package builds on its e-terra 3.0 suite of software solutions, driven by utilities evolving business requirements and need for a more holistic and accurate view of current grid status, as well as faster and better intelligence to anticipate and mitigate potential future stability issues.

The Grid Stability Package integrates existing solutions (EMS, Situational Awareness and Visualization applications, Wide Area Monitoring and Online Stability System technology) and transitions from the traditional SCADA-based energy management paradigm, moving to a more dynamic and proactive grid stability management approach.

By quickly transforming instantaneous synchrophasor measurements into valuable information through real-time measurement-based analytics, and combining them with model-based predictive visibility, Alstoms solution provides advanced decision support tools to better assess grid stability and maximise transfer capacity. The result is a smarter grid and a more informed and efficient control room environment.

The integration of previously separate systems into Alstoms Grid Stability Package has been customized for existing customers. In what will be the worlds largest Wide Area Monitoring System, Alstom is providing the software solution to monitor more than 1,300 Phasor Measurement Units collecting over 18,000 real-time, synchronised measurements from 351 substations in India, ultimately enabling grid operators to make better decisions to prevent blackouts.
