Today, Alstom and the University of Nottingham mark the second anniversary of their collaboration, with senior staff from the two institutions to enjoy a special celebration.

The collaboration, signed in 2012, was a natural partnership University of Nottingham is a world leader in power electronics technology and Alstom Grid is a commercial leader in the area. As a result of the partnership, Alstom Grids Dr Colin Oates has become an Associate Professor at the University. David Trainer and Omar Jasim, from the companys research team, are based in office facilities within the University.

Colin Davidson, Chief Technology Officer for Alstoms High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology, said, Given that were both world leaders in the field of power electronics, creating such a collaboration was natural choice for both of us. We can already see very positive outcomes from the tie-up in some highly technical areas of HVDC technology and are delighted to be able to celebrate a second successful year of working together.

Professor Jon Clare, who leads the activity at Nottingham, said, We are delighted to be working with Alstom Grid, one of the global leaders in power electronics for grid applications. The partnership gives real industrial relevance and exploitation routes for our research and the day to day interaction with Alstom Grid staff based at the University is of great value to both partners. It is also good to see that the relationship is providing an excellent talent pipeline for Alstom Grid, with many Nottingham University graduates and researchers taking up employment in Stafford.

Moving forward, the University will work with Alstom to complete prototyping work on a number of projects before looking to develop the third generation of Alstoms VSC technology.
