Alstom finishes the assembly of the first Kaplan rotor for Manduriacu project in Ecuador

Alstom finished the assembly of the first Kaplan rotor for Manduriacu, a hydro plant located on Guayllabamba river, in Pichincha province, Ecuador. The set is part of one of the two Kaplan turbines of 30 MW each supplied by Alstom, with a total of 60MW of generation. It includes a rotor, internal upper lid and axle, weights over 66 tons, and is nine meters length and 3.67 meters diameter. Thanks to a specific treatment for the blades, known as Hard Coating, the life of the equipment can be increased.

Alstom is part of a consortium which supplies equipment to the Manduriacu project, in which its share is approximately 25 million. The scope of the consortium also includes the delivery of hydro-mechanical equipment, substation and balance of plant. The commercial operation will start by the end of the year.
