Alstom hosted its 25th annual North America Users Group in Bellevue, WA, in June, this year. Over 240 customers from 45 companies and several technology, university and research partners gathered for the three-day event focused on Alstoms Network Management System (NMS) technology for mission critical energy control rooms. The conference gave attendees the opportunity to participate in over 60 technical symposiums, including eight Special Interest Groups, featuring over 20 utility customer speakers.

Key customers had the opportunity to participate in a panel session that discussed the business benefits of integrated control room systems, especially for vertically integrated utilities using control room software across Transmission and Distribution systems from a single vendor.  Craig Fenrick, Vice President of Energy Delivery at Madison Gas & Electric added in his key note speech, At MGE, we put safety first in everything we do.  The fact that Alstoms Integrated Distribution Management Systems (IDMS) brings the capabilities to provide consistent reliability in a more safe work environment is one of the top benefits from the project.

Paul Huseman of Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) who is serving as the Users Group Chairman through to the 2016 event, had this to say, I was honored to serve as the customer Chairman, especially to mark the silver anniversary of the North American Users Group. This event provides an excellent setting for all Alstom customers, some of whom have been using Alstoms control center software to manage their grids for over 25 years, to share knowledge and experiences for the ultimate benefit of the efficiency and effectiveness of the North American Grid.

Were extremely proud of reaching this quarter of a century milestone for the North America Users Group as it represents our longevity in the industry and our continued collaborative innovation with our customers. The fact that our plenary keynote and panel session was filled with utilities who have been using our solutions and participating in our Users Group for over 20 years is a testament to the value of this kind of community, the willingness to share experiences and learn from each other, said Karim El Naggar, Alstom Grid Vice President, Network Management Solutions.

At the event, Alstom announced the alliance between UISOL, Alstoms NMS consulting and systems integration services group, with Open Grid Systems. This alliance will be able to provide modern, scalable solutions for utilities mobile field workforce by combining the advanced, extensible mobile applications from Open Grid with the Alstoms IDMS.

Alstom Grid Users Group events are organized every year in Europe & Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Asia Pacific regions. These events represent over 1000 worldwide utility experts that come together to discuss and define Alstom Grid technical roadmaps and set the industry vision of the future.
