Alstom delivers its first metro train for Panama Line 2

Alstom delivers the first of the 21 Metropolis trains for Line 2 of Panamas Metro. This version of the Metropolis train has large doors and corridors, and a continuous low floor for an optimal flow of passengers. It also incorporates large seats and dynamic information displays to improve the user experience. 

In 2015, Panama Metro S.A. (MPSA), under Public Act tendered the Line 2 of Panama Metro Project, which will encompass the construction of 16 stations, it will include a 21 km long elevated viaduct that runs from San Miguelito to the Nuevo Tocumen area, with a transport capacity of up to 40,000 passengers per hour, per direction. With this new line, which is expected to start commercial operation in May 2019, the MPSA network will have 37 km of coverage, and will improve the quality of transportation for more than 500,000 Panamanians. 

The Metro Line 2 Consortium, awards the services of the electromechanical components  to the Group of Companies (Alstom, CIM, Sofratesa, Thales and TSO) - being led by Alstom to supply an integrated metro system to Line 2 of Panamas Metro, which includes 21 Metropolis trains, as well as traction substations, as well as the Hesop reversible substation and Urbalis (Alstom's CBTC solution, which controls the movement of trains and allows them to operate at higher frequencies and speeds with total safety). Metropolis is part of the solutions that Alstom offers in terms of metro, of which more than 5,500 cars have been sold worldwide. This solution is available in cities such as Singapore, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, and Amsterdam.

Alstom has been playing a key role in the development of urban transport infrastructure in Panama. In 2015, Alstom, as leader of the consortium, was awarded a contract by Panamas Metro to supply 70 additional metro cars for Line 1 of Panamas Metro.[1] Alstoms first additional train began operation in June 2017.[2]
