Alstom is launching MaxSineTM eStorage, a battery energy storage solution (BESS) that will enable energy storage along the grid. This solution will increase energy efficiency and balance energy flow in real-time, based on consumer demand.
Alstom Grid has successfully delivered the 420 kV electrical substation in Barkeryd, Sweden, after two and a half years of construction. The switchyard, situated in the municipality of Nässjö, southern Sweden, will be connected to Svenska Kraftnät’s South West Link.

September 10th, Alstom joined the Millennium Challenge Tanzania (MCA-T) inauguration ceremony, hosted by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and by the Resident Country Director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in Tanzania, Mr Karl Fickenscher. Alstom Grid has successfully tested 820 kV bushings for HVDC converter transformers, placing the company as one of only three players in the world to manufacture this technology, which is key to ensuring the reliability of HVDC lines . The bushings are designed and manufactured at Alstom’s bushing competence centre, in Milan, Italy.
From 1 April to 30 June 2013, Alstom booked €4.1 billion orders, down 32% compared to the first quarter of last year. In a challenging environment, a good flow of small to medium-sized orders was booked over the quarter but the commercial performance was penalized by a less active market regarding big contracts.

Alstom Grid and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), one of the largest electric utilities in the world, have announced the creation of KEPCO Alstom Power Electronics Systems (KAPES). The joint venture will focus on delivering high voltage direct current (HVDC) projects in Korea. This long term strategic relationship aims at increasing Korean transmission grid capabilities based on Alstom technology. The joint venture is implemented with a shareholding of 49% for Alstom and 51% for KEPCO.
The consortium Alstom Grid and Keppel Verolme has successfully installed an offshore substation for Global Tech I, an offshore wind farm located in the German North Sea. Installed on site by Keppel Verolme, the floating, self-erecting substation, based on the Mobile Offshore Application Barge (MOAB), a design of Overdick, will be applied for an offshore wind farm substation in Germany.
Between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013, Alstom booked €23.8 billion of orders, up 10% compared to last year. As announced, the group achieved a strong level of orders in the fourth quarter at €6.6 billion, leading to a book-to-bill above 1 for the 10th consecutive quarter.

Two transformers manufactured by Alstom’s Wuhan factory (China) in the frame of Brazil’s Rio Madeira transmission line contract have arrived at the Porto Velho substation in north-west Brazil. The total journey of the transformers from Wuhan to Porto Velho took around 70 days with stops in Shanghai (China), Manaus (Brazil) and Porto Velho.

Alstom Grid has been awarded a three-year electrical substation services contract, worth more than €3 million, with TransnetBW in Germany, covering planned and unplanned maintenance and emergency repair on all of their high voltage assets. The scope of the contract includes power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, gas-insulated switchgear, instrument transformers, AC/DC auxiliary supply and thermographic measurement.
