Visitors were also able to learn more about our expansion into full turnkey offshore wind solutions and the development of our popular ECO onshore turbine range for use in offshore applications.
In addition, Daniel Castell, Offshore Wind Platform Director - Alstom Power, presented a paper at the event conference titles 'Manufacturing a Prototype of New Generation 6 MW Direct Drive Offshore Wind Turbines'.
Over 2,500 delegates attended this year’s RenewableUK Offshore Wind 2011 Exhibition and Conference, including senior government officials, investors, financiers, manufacturers, developers and all others with an interest in the latest developments in offshore wind energy.
29th June - Alstom is building the first 6MW offshore machine of a new generation
Alstom participated in the RenewableUK Offshore Wind conference and exhibition in Liverpool, highlighting the latest advances in the development of its new generation 6 MW offshore wind turbine. Frederick Hendrick, Vice President of Offshore Wind, Alstom, informed delegates of the unique features of this turbine bringing down the cost of generating offshore wind energy: - Robust with the unique ALSTOM PURE TORQUETM technology, - Simple with Direct Drive Permanent Magnet Generator - Efficient, thanks to a 150 metre rotor diameter, the largest ever produced in the industry.
Furthermore, he outlined manufacturing plans, the development of partnerships and the supply chain to ensure Alstom delivers the first machine of a new generation on the market by the end of this year for onshore testing. Alstom’s Wind experts also hosted a networking lunch where visitors had the opportunity to discuss Alstom’s industrial footprint, skills development and the challenges faced in the UK’s renewable market.

30th June - A real buzz about Alstom’s UK supply chain event
Day two saw a different look and feel to the exhibition, with many delegates having had the opportunity to network over the last 24 hours. This created a huge level of interest and discussion around Alstom’s forthcoming offshore wind supply chain event to be held in Bolton on 7th and 8th July.
A number of potential UK suppliers visited the stand, either confirming their attendance or enquiring for more details about Alstom’s 6 MW Offshore Wind turbine and our intentions in the UK market. In addition to this, a number of trade press journalists visited the Alstom stand to develop existing relationships and create new contacts, with the promise of working closely with Alstom to report on our progress.
All delegates agreed that the UK Offshore Wind market is the place to be. The level of interest and the messages delivered at Liverpool reinforced the rapid pace at which the technology and industry is developing. This is critical to meeting the UK’s demanding renewables targets and Alstom will be at the forefront of delivering clean power solutions.
Without a doubt, all delegates left with a clear message from Alstom, that we will be the first to the market with a new generation of Offshore Wind turbine, which is robust, simple and efficient and we will demonstrate in time for the first UK Round 3 projects.
