Alstom marked its growing presence in the UK Renewables market by promoting its clean power and energy management solutions at the UK’s leading Renewables exhibition and conference in Manchester, UK (25-27 October).

The event represented all renewable technologies including onshore and offshore wind, wave and tidal energy, and attracted over 5000 visitors, including leading political and industry figures.

The key note speech was delivered by Chris Huhne, MP, Secretary for State for Energy and Climate Change who focused on the challenges that lay ahead for the renewables industry, noting that “ over £200billion worth of energy infrastructure needed by the end of the decade”.

Throughout the event, the key debates focused on technology, funding, legislation, market opportunities, sustainability, EHS and green skills development, culminating in a careers fair and public open day to attract people into the Renewables Industry. Mike Griffith, Head of Business Development, Alstom, also contributed to the debate on tackling the green skills shortage when he participated in the panel discussion ‘Offshore competence transfer from Oil and Gas to Wind: Perspectives and Challenges’.

The event provided the ideal opportunity to demonstrate Alstom’s commitment to the UK renewable energy market and that Alstom is taking the lead by providing a flexible portfolio of reliable, competitive technologies to capture the energy from all renewable sources. This coupled with our Grid offering to deliver smart energy management solutions and improve the efficient transmission of electricity via HVDC and Smart Grid solutions, gives Alstom a unique and leading position in the market. Allowing us to offer the whole solution, both generating electricity and delivering the electricity from the source to the switch.

These messages formed the focal point on the exhibition stand and the event offered Alstom the opportunity to maximise the networking opportunities to develop relationships with existing and future customers, in addition to creating new partnerships to support the growth of the UK renewable industry. It also allowed for further discussion on Alstom’s unique and patented ALSTOM PURE TORQUE™ concept., alongside the latest advances in the development of the 6 MW offshore wind turbine optimised for UK conditions and Alstom’s recent investment in the wave energy market.
