Alstom Grid today announced it closed an asset purchase agreement with its long-time value-added reseller EvolutionSCADA, a provider of advanced open pipeline SCADA technology applications since 1986.

SCADA - or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition - refers to computer systems that monitor and control industrial processes. Alstom is a leading supplier of SCADA systems to the electric power transmission and distribution utilities, Independent Power Producers, and Railway.

EvolutionSCADA has applied its expertise and applications specific to pipeline management and control, relying on Alstom's SCADA platform, to create a configurable suite of applications for planning, monitoring and operating pipelines for gas or petroleum product conveyance.

Based on Alstoms real-time control system technology, the EvolutionSCADA system is installed at LOOP (Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, LLC.), Genesis Energy, and select large natural gas utilities. More recently, Marathon Pipe Line LLC of Findlay, Ohio, selected Alstom in the first two phases of its three-phase SCADA replacement project; and Magellan Midstream Partners, L.P. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, chose Alstom and EvolutionSCADA technology for its new liquid pipeline SCADA system.

Joining Alstom opens the door to pipeline opportunities worldwide and better resources for future system development, said EvolutionSCADA principal and founder Bruce McLean. Now we are in a position to establish leadership at a global level in the pipeline SCADA arena.

After more than 20 years as strategic partners, this acquisition was a natural outcome for Alstom in the continued expansion of our business, added Karim El-Naggar, Vice President of Alstoms Network Management Solutions (NMS). EvolutionSCADA has a proven track record for product quality, a reputation for excellent service and a long-term commitment to customers.

This purchase is a good fit for Alstom in general, as the company also provides solutions in upstream, mid-stream and downstream activities, including substations and electrical products and services, to ensure reliable and safe supply to the Oil & Gas industry.
