Washington DC – 02 February, 2011 – Alstom Grid, a
world leader in the field of electricity transmission and electric grids for
over a century, is demonstrating once more its
commitment to Smart Grid development and implementation by showcasing its
offering of complementary Smart Grid-ready solutions and presenting its latest
large-scale U.S. Smart Grid demonstration projects at DistribuTECH 2011 Conference
& Exhibition February 1-3, 2011, in San Diego, CA, in booth #1026.

These Smart Grid-ready solutions will
include the following with dedicated demonstrations:

Compact Optical Sensor Intelligence (COSI): Ahead of the competition, Alstom Grid will launch on the U.S. market its
new Smart Grid-ready Digital Instrument Transformer, offering significant
benefits in accuracy, safety, overall lifetime costs and operational
flexibility. Optical sensors are key technology in AC and DC applications
utilizing digital secondary systems with IEC 61850-9-2.

·       
Urban Power™ solution for eco-cities: the Urban Power™ Demand Response platform for eco-districts and
eco-cities balances and optimizes the management of distributed energy
resources for clusters of buildings, eco-districts or eco-cities, to reduce the
urban carbon footprint and energy costs.

·       
e-terradistribution
IDMS for distribution networks:
the next generation
Integrated Distribution Management System platform monitors and optimizes
distribution grids from the control room to the customer delivery point. It is
capable of reducing outage times by 30 percent and system losses by 5 percent,
and enables the next generation self-healing grid.

·       
Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS): bringing a focus on grid intelligence and system situation
awareness, the DERMS platform is designed to visualize, predict, and optimize
demand response and distributed generation.

·       
Voltage Source Converter (VSC): this new HVDC
converter technology offersthe most
efficient means for connecting offshore wind farms to the onshore electric grid
when transmission distances are greater than 40 km. It uses a self-commutated
switching device, an Insulated Gate Bi-polar Transistor (IGBT), and a
semi-conductor device which can be turned on and off by an external controller.

Evaluated today at around 24b€/year, the global Smart Grid market is expected to grow to
50b€/year by 2020. In particular, the power generation and grid management
market segments, where Alstom has a historically strong foothold, should
represent over 65% of the market. The growth on this market until 2015 is
predicted to be largely driven by power electronics and control room segments,
placing Alstom Grid as a natural leader in this upcoming market evolution.
