ALSTOM to supply equipment for interregional trains in the
Netherlands

ALSTOM has just been awarded a contract worth more than 82
million euros to supply the equipment for interregional trains
operated by the Dutch Railway company, NS Reizigers.

Under the terms of the contract, ALSTOM, as a subcontractor
to Bombardier Transportation, will supply the complete
electrical installation for 252 new train-cars. This will
include the traction system, the auxiliary power supply, the
train management system, the cabling and the passenger
information system. This equipment will be installed on the
additional units of the 81 existing 3- and 4-car trainsets,
which are being extended to 4- and 6-car trainsets, as well as
on 25 new 4-and 6-car trainsets.

The first trainsets will be delivered by January 2002, and
deliveries will continue at an average rate of 8 units per
month until 2004.

The work will be carried out by ALSTOM Traxis in the
Netherlands, a company acquired in April 2000 and which employs
over 200 people. ALSTOM Traxis, based in Ridderkerk, near
Rotterdam, designs and manufactures electric propulsion and
electronic control systems for trains, metros, trams and
electrical buses.

This new order strengthens ALSTOM's position in the field of
transport in the Netherlands. In July this year, the Company
announced that it had been chosen by Rotterdamse Elektrische
Tram (RET), the Dutch city's transportation authority, to
supply 60 new tramcars in a contract valued at 82 million
euros.
